It appears that Gmail now supports IMAP in addition to POP access. This is a big upgrade for those of us who prefer a regular mail client to a web interface.
If interested you can enable IMAP support under “settings” “Forwarding and POP/IMAP”.

That’s disappointing, I thought they turned it on for everyone.
Turns out if you send a reply via imap Google tags the e-mail with an imap category. That way you can see what’s a normal gmail reply vs something from your client.
